August 1st: I just finished "Start Writing Your Book Today" and really am starting my book today! Thanks to Morgan Gist MacDonald's directions I now have a deadline, daily word count goal and even have a friend who will be holding me accountable (using the sheets provided by the author). Hope to respond to this review soon with my first draft completed!August 15th Update:I am now half way through my manuscript--way ahead of schedule, and should be finished with my first book by mid-September. I am following Morgan's advice to the letter and it's crazy how helpful it is. Can't wait to update with a finished product!August 24th Update: Finished my first draft! Onward to the editing phase, but I am very confident ill be finishing everything up in the next few months.If you are aspiring to write, but just don't know how--do not hesitate and get this book. I never thought this day would come, but thanks to Morgan's advice and book I have a completed rough draft manuscript!
Normally I'm skeptical about how-to books because the authors talk like cheerleaders: high on the motivation, but with little to no specifics on how to overcome the challenges along the way. I was very pleasantly surprised with this book.There are a lot of prospective authors, but most end up getting daunted by aiming too high, and lose interest when the whole book-writing process doesn't quite pan out as easily as they think it should. This author talks about the different options now available to prospective book authors: Instead of writing a full-length book, they can set aside a few weeks to write a short book, and use that to test their market through electronic distribution. From there, they can build up confidence and knowledge about their market, and work their way up. Why set yourself up for a fall, when there are other good options available which may bring you closer to your goal of becoming a published author?In the book, she also reveals some of her "tricks of the trade" which may come in handy for prospective authors. I am a sucker for this kind of information since I like to learn trade secrets for how people go about doing their work. These are not complicated tricks, but are things you can put into action for yourself in an afternoon. Not complicated, and very handy to know.This author also works as a freelance editor for prospective authors, and she is very upfront about how this book helps her to discover prospects for her own editing business. I came away convinced that she knows what she is doing.This is a small solid book, and should be on your tablet if you are serious about becoming an author.

I just want to let everyone know that the email she gives, is not a working email. I emailed it right after I heard it. My email account is still trying to send it, it has failed at least 3 times. So no she is not reachable, but I guess it did help me get my book started. After I listened to the first two chapters, I was able to write my first chapter and it was over 3,000 words. I was not able to do that, but this helped me realize that I am my own worse enemy and I made it happen. Thank you for the help, but I really could wish I could email the author. I guess that was naive of me. oh well.
